We are always on the lookout for stories that showcase UMD. We regularly talk to local and regional media outlets, both to promote UMD stories and respond to inquiries. Do you have a story idea? Submit your story idea.
We are especially interested in stories that highlight the student experience, emphasize research and learning, create an emotional reaction, and tell people what makes UMD unique and vibrant. The media is in search of stories that are impactful, interesting, visual, and even unusual. We can help you determine how to frame, pitch, and deliver your story to the media. Working with the University of Minnesota Government Relations office, UMPR works to advance the interests of UMD among government officials at the local, state, and federal level. Faculty, students, staff, alumni, business leaders, and community members are our strongest advocates. Join the U of M Legislative Action Network.
UMPR supports UMD’s web presence. We can help you develop new web content, improve your existing content, and make sure your site is consistent with UMD’s brand.

University Marketing and Public Relations staff produce articles, news releases, marketing copy, website content, donor letters, invitations, and more. Our staff can also edit existing pieces to make sure they capture the UMD brand.
UMPR manages UMD’s brand marketing and works with units across campus on targeted marketing campaigns. We can help you develop a marketing strategy with a mix of options to help you engage your target audience.
We work on projects that align with the UMD Strategic Plan, enrollment goals, and/or donor relations. We can offer you guidance, review pieces, and make recommendations on your design projects. This includes layout, branding guidelines, visuals, text, paper selection, overage needs, and print pricing.
We can also provide you with contact information for graphic designers, writers, and printers.
Images are a vital component of communication. We work with campus departments to provide photography services and resources. Requests are fulfilled based on availability. Priority is given to requests that can be used for multiple purposes and those with a focus on recruitment, fundraising, public relations, marketing, special events, and unique projects such as publications and brochures. Professional studio headshot photos are also available upon request. Please make requests three to four weeks in advance.
UMPR also maintains a photo library that you can access any time to download photos for UMD web and print projects.
Video is a great way to engage your audience with a compelling story and visuals. UMPR produces award-winning video content aimed at communicating the UMD brand and values we uphold, while celebrating student and faculty success. We are always looking for story ideas that align with our goals. Share an idea with us!
